Course Overview:
In this one-session class, you’ll learn the cold process method of soap making, a traditional technique that combines oils, fats, and lye to create rich, moisturizing soap. This method allows you to explore the science behind soap making while also unleashing your creativity with fun designs and swirls.
• Creating Swirly Soap:
You’ll begin by blending food-grade oils and fats with sodium hydroxide (lye) in a safe and controlled process. Then, you’ll add your choice of fragrance oils and select two colors to create beautiful swirls within the soap. The process is not only educational but also a lot of fun, as you watch your creative vision come to life in each bar.
• Take-Home Soap:
At the end of the session, you’ll have about two pounds of soap that you can either cut and take home immediately or leave at the studio to cure for 3-4 weeks. Curing is a necessary step that allows the soap to dry out properly and become gentle on the skin.
Course Details:
• All Materials Included: All ingredients, tools, and safety equipment will be provided. You’ll choose your fragrance and colors from a selection, and we’ll ensure everything is ready for you to craft your perfect soap.
• Safety First: This class uses sodium hydroxide (lye), a necessary ingredient for the cold process method. You’ll be provided with safety equipment, and all students are required to wear it at all times to ensure a safe experience.
• Class Duration: This is a single-session class, lasting approximately 2 hours.
• Curing Time: You’ll be taking the soap home with you with instructions for unmolding and cutting. After cutting, the soap will need to cure at home for 3-4 weeks before it can be used.
What to Bring:
• Wear non-slip shoes (closed-toe shoes are recommended) and older clothes you don't mind getting dirty. We will have aprons available.
• Bring any water or beverages you’d like to enjoy during the class.
